Systematics

The genus Cedrelopsis was established in 1893 by Henri Ernest Baillon in Histoire Physique, Naturelle et Politique de Madagascar , Plate 257. Type species is Cedrelopsis grevei Baill. & Courchet . A synonym for Cedrelopsis Baill. is Katafa Costantin & Poiss. .

The history of the systematic classification of this genus is changeable. In the adaptation for the Flore de Madagascar et des Comores from 1991, Cedrelopsis was classified together with the monotypical African genus Ptaeroxylon in the small family Ptaeroxylaceae. It was later assigned to the mahogany family (Meliaceae). In the meantime, the earlier Ptaeroxylaceae are included in the more broadly circumscribed diamond family (Rutaceae). The genus Cedrelopsis belongs to the subfamily Spathelioideae within the family of Rutaceae .
