The Ceratizit Group is a stock corporation (SA) based in Mamer , Luxembourg , and produces powder metallurgical sintered parts for cutting tools , hard metal rods for the precision tool industry , hard metals for wear protection and for wood and stone processing. The company is the fourth largest carbide manufacturer in the world and the world market leader in the field of industrial wear , wood and stone processing . Plansee Holding AG has a 50% stake in Ceratizit SA , the remaining shares are privately owned.

history

Ceratizit SA was created in 2002 through the merger of the companies Cerametal (founded in 1931) and Plansee Tizit (founded in 1985). Cerametal was founded in Walferdange , Luxembourg by Nicolas Lanners. In 1948 the cooperation between Cerametal and the then Plansee GmbH took place. In 1979, Cerametal started production in the USA, and ceramic parts were manufactured for the first time in 1988. In 1996 Instrument AG in Bulgaria was integrated into Plansee Tizit, and at the same time the cooperation with Siel to form Siel Tizit Ltd. in Kolkata, India . After the establishment of Ceratizit SA in 2002, the company opened sales offices in Brazil , Poland , Hungary and the Czech Republic in 2003 . In 2007 new administration buildings were added in Mamer and Reutte , the Tooling Academy (a testing and training center in Reutte), as well as sales and distribution offices in the People's Republic of China , Mexico and Spain . In 2007, Ceratizit took over the private company Newcomer Products, Inc. based in Latrobe, Pennsylvania . In 2010, Ceratizit and CB Carbide pooled their Asian activities in the joint venture CB Ceratizit, in which Ceratizit and the shareholders of CB Carbide each hold a 50% stake. In 2011 a second Tooling Academy was opened in Tianjin, China.

As part of the expansion course, Ceratizit took over 50% of the solid carbide tool manufacturer Günther Wirth in 2012 in order to complete the value chain for round tools. Ceratizit advanced its expansion in the USA in 2014 with the acquisition of 80% of the shares in the solid carbide tool manufacturer Promax Tools, based in Rancho Cordova , California , United States . In 2015, the solid carbide tool manufacturer Klenk from Balzheim , Germany, and 67% of the shares in Cobra Carbide India were taken over. On October 13, 2017, the Ceratizit Group announced the takeover of the KOMET Group.

With over 9,000 employees (2018), Ceratizit SA operates 34 production sites in Europe , North America and Asia and has sales offices in 42 countries. The company holds over 1,000 patents worldwide and produced over 10 billion sintered parts in 2010. Every year the company invests almost 10 percent of its sales in the development of new products and technologies.
