Chajlaya is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Chajlaya is the largest village in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Chuma in the province of Muñecas . The scattered settlement Chajlaya is located in a high valley in the northwestern part of the Cordillera Muñecas at an altitude of 3122 m , about thirty kilometers from the east bank of Lake Titicaca .

Chajlaya is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Real . The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

From La Paz the paved road Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers north to Huarina , from there in a north-westerly direction Ruta 16 via Achacachi , Ancoraimes and Puerto Carabuco to Escoma . From there, Ruta 16 turns northeast towards Charazani . After 20 kilometers a dirt road branches off to the east and after another 20 kilometers reaches Chajlaya .

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Chuma 88.5 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
