Channel Zero is a thrash metal band from Brussels ( Belgium ).

history

Channel Zero was founded in 1990 by Phil Baheux, Tino de Martini and Patrice Hubloux. The three founding members were previously active in the thrash metal band Sixty Nine . The band name comes from the Public Enemy -Song She Watches Channel Zero . After a short time, the singer Franky de Smet van Damme and the guitarist Xavier Carion joined the band. In the year it was founded, the band recorded a demo that sold over a thousand times. Then the band was signed by the German company Shark Records.

In 1992 the self-titled debut album was released . Channel Zero then toured Europe with Deicide , Biohazard and Pantera and gained a rapidly growing fan base , especially in the Benelux and Germany . After the tour, the guitarist Patrice Hubloux was replaced by Peter Iterbeke.

A year later the band recorded their second album, Stigmatized For Life . Since the band was not satisfied with the mix, singer de Smet van Damme flew to Nashville at his own expense to have the recordings done by Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul . With this album the band took on more and more hardcore influences in the band sound. This was followed by months of tours with Life of Agony , Pro-Pain and Obituary . After the end of the tour Peter Iterbeke left the band, which now continued as a quartet.

With Play It Again, Sam Channel Zero now had a new record company, and the management was also changed. The third album Unsafe gave the Belgians their final breakthrough in Europe: For the first time a Channel Zero album was released in the USA, where a video clip for Suck My Energy was shot; this clip was aired frequently on MTV . This was followed by a tour with Megadeth and appearances at the largest music festivals in Europe, such as B. Torhout / Werchter or Pukkelpop . The band also toured Australia for the first time .

In 1996 the fourth album Black Fuel was released, which again received excellent reviews. However, the following tour with Body Count was rather unfortunate. In the summer, Channel Zero performed at Dynamo Open Air . A year later rumors piled up that the band would break up. In fact, Channel Zero announced the end of the band in August 1997. A live album was published as an obituary .

On June 15, 2009 it was announced that the band would play a reunion concert on January 22, 2010 in Brussels. This was so vehemently demanded by fans in a Facebook group that the band decided to comply with their fans' request. The Reunion concert in the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels sold out so quickly that two more concerts were added on January 23rd and 24th. After these were also sold out quickly, three additional concerts were held on January 28th, 29th and 31st. The concerts were released in 2010 as a live CD and DVD. Channel Zero was also confirmed for the Belgian Graspop Metal Meeting (June 25-27, 2010) and for the Rock Werchter , along with bands like Kiss and Motörhead .

In 2011 the band released their comeback studio album Feed 'Em with a Brick.

On August 10, 2013, drummer Phil Baheux died unexpectedly at the age of 45. The cause of death was a ruptured blood vessel. In memory of the late Baheux, the band played an acoustic concert on August 14, 2013 at the Brussels Summer Festival.

In October 2013, the remaining band members announced that they wanted to continue working on the new album. Roy Mayorga was announced as the drummer on this album . The album Kill All Kings was released on April 4, 2014. The single Electronic Cocaine was released on March 4th. The Greek-American musician Seven Antonopoulos has been the band's drummer for live concerts since 2014.

On October 16, 2015, Channel Zero released the album Unplugged , for which the band re-recorded their own songs in acoustic versions. For this album, the band subsequently completed a comprehensive tour of Belgium.
