action

Wurzbach , 1996: Elisabeth Jensen, at that time still little Elli, is at a wedding with her friends Hanna Heinrich and Suse Schmidt. The girls have nothing to do with such a celebration, where there is a lot of drinking and lying, and they swear to one another never to marry.

Many years later, Elli is sitting on an airplane, although she suffers from a fear of flying, and jumps into the depths with her friend Alexander "Alex" Baum. Alex gave her this skydive for her birthday. Shortly before both of them arrive downstairs, he unrolls a tape that says: “Do you want to be my wife?” Elli, who is sick and has to vomit, does not react as Alex had hoped and lets him know that she never really wants to marry if she would, but only him. Alex withdraws hurt and wants a break first.

In this situation, of all times, Elli has to go back to her hometown Wurzbach, as there is a wedding in the family circle and she had promised her mother Rose that she would attend. Together with her friend Hanna Heinrich she takes part in the ceremony, which has the motto "Sea Costumes". There the women who live together in one apartment get to know a Martin Boford who sings at the party - and leaves a lasting impression on both of them. They also meet their friend Suse Schmidt again, who is four months pregnant and wants to get married soon. Despite the expectations of the friends, they have an amusing evening.

Since Elli misses Alex, she approaches him again and explains that she wants to accept his proposal because she loves him. However, she asks Alex to agree to only host a small wedding reception. However, the preparations are getting out of hand. Alex's divorced mother Hilde wants her ex-husband, who is going to pay for the wedding, to really bleed. So one thing leads to another and suddenly the planning is such that the small celebration grows into a giant festival. Since a wedding planner should also be involved, Elli chooses her friend Suse for this role. Alex, however, leaves his girlfriend alone with the preparations. He justifies this with the fact that he is currently participating in an important competition for a construction project and that his time is limited. He is an architect who works temporarily as a site manager, but wants to be more creative again. Elli notices more than once that she and Alex are very different in many things, they can neither agree on a common apartment because their ideas drift apart, nor can they laugh at the same things and have little else to say to each other.

Elli meets Martin Boford again in a library. She tells him that she is a German teacher and thinks he is an employee, but he is not. He writes a phone number for her on the book she is buying.

After Alex won the tender and celebrated accordingly, Elli finds a message from Alex's assistant Tanja Breuer on his cell phone, which rings after she has put him to bed drunk: “I don't understand why you're marrying E. and not me ?? She is very old !! Tell her the truth! Otherwise she won't get any more! Hot kisses XXXXX Tanja. “Elli is not only stunned by the text, but can also hardly believe that Alex is having an affair with this woman. In desperation, she makes her way to Wurzbach, but has to call Suse on the way because she doesn't have enough gasoline in the tank. Since she vomits on the way, Suse wants to know if she is pregnant. After various tests, Suse's guess turns out to be correct.

When Elli talks to Alex 'and pretends that a friend has been cheated on by her boyfriend, he only says that men are drive-controlled and that if she loves the man, she should just tolerate it, even if she has to risk it he's doing it again. Despite this statement, everyone comes to Elli and Alex's wedding the next day. When the pastor begins that they have come together here today to trust two people ... Elli interrupts him, "who don't go together at all". And to Alex, she knew he had a lover. The worst thing, however, is that they couldn't laugh at the same things, that they couldn't see the same things, and that they couldn't even agree on a common apartment. And now she stands here and cannot help it. Without further ado, she gives her friend Suse and her boyfriend Thomas the wedding ceremony. When everyone is sitting together in the garden, Martin re-enters Elli's life. From the stage he says, now they are playing a song that the bride wished for and addressed to Elli that he was very glad that she was not the bride.

criticism

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best possible rating by showing the thumbs up and found the following words of praise for the film: “Relationship farce with strong female roles.” Stephan Luca's play was said to be “a little distant” and the Staging "sometimes too slippery", but: "Vetter and Belitski" made "a lot out of their roles", were "cheeky, funny and modern".

Rainer Tittelbach gave the film four out of six possible stars on his website tittelbach.tv and summarized: “In 'Unfortunately, the bride says no, Vivian Naefe and Sarah Palma mix a humorous story of a woman out of a bouquet of everyday, comedically exaggerated situations. who cannot say no and who must already painfully learn what to expect in marriage. For the ZDF-'Herzkino', this comedy is unusually young, pleasingly playful and largely free of public spaces in the dialogues. Even the usual first-person comments from the off are not annoying here - and Adina Vetter & Natalia Belitski are the real dream couple in this film! "Adina Vetter is" as a woman who finds it difficult to find a balance between her own expectations and the demands of others , a very good cast ”. [...] "Perfectly cast" is "also Natalia Belitski, last year's shooting star": She gives her character "a strength and self-confidence that is evident in her entire posture and can be felt down to the smallest gesture" .

The film service could not gain much from the film and wrote: “Cliché-laden (television) romantic comedy based on the pattern of 'weddings and other catastrophes'. - From 14. "
