Charles Dumas
Charles Everett Dumas (born February 12, 1937 in Tulsa , † January 5, 2004 in Inglewood ) was an American high jumper.
In qualifying for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne , he was the first person to jump over 7 ft (2.1336 m) on June 29, 1956. With this height he traveled to Australia as a favorite and was able to achieve the Olympic victory in the high jump with a new Olympic record (2.12 m) .
Four years later at the games in Rome he finished 6th, disabled by a knee injury.
Dumas died of cancer at the age of 66.
