Charles Maucourt

Charles Maucourt (* 1718 in Paris , † January 1768 in London ) was a French painter and etcher .

Life

He first worked in Paris as a portrait and miniature painter as well as a draftsman. After the death of his (first) wife Anne-Genevieve Humblot in 1748, he went on a journey. In 1750 he is attested as a court painter at the court of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and in 1752 worked for the court of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . In 1755 he was in Düsseldorf , towards the end of the 1750s in Braunschweig and then went to London. From 1761 to 1767 he took part in exhibitions of the Royal Society of Arts here .

In addition to portraits in oil and pastel paintings , historical engravings by him have come down to us.

His son Louis Charles Maucourt (also Charles Louis Maucourt , * 1760 in Braunschweig, † probably 1825) became violinist and conductor of the Braunschweig court orchestra. He was also known as a composer and violin teacher of Louis Spohr .
