Charles "Charlie" Williams (born January 5, 1977 in Seoul , South Korea ) is an American pool player , official and manager as well as sports promoter.

Career

In September 1997, Charlie Williams finished seventeenth at the US Open . After 1998 the round of the 9-Ball World Cup had reached, he won the Planet 9-Ball Intergalactic Open in 2000 and came at the US Open to 13th place. In July 2001 he reached the last sixteen at the 9-Ball World Cup and was defeated there by the Philippine Leonardo Andam just 9:11. A month later, Williams won the Turning Stone Casino Classic. In 2002 he won the BCA Open and was eliminated from the 9-ball World Cup in the round of 64. After Williams had won the Big Apple 9-Ball Challenge and the Capital City Classic in 2003, he finished sixth in the 9-ball competition of the Derby City Classic in 2004 and came in 33rd place at the 9-ball World Cup . At the World Games 2005 Williams reached the quarter-finals and lost to the Greek Evangelos Vettas . In 2006 he was eliminated from the 9-ball World Cup in the round of 64 and reached fourth place at the BCA Open and the round of 16 of the 14/1 endless World Cup . At the 10-Ball World Cup in 2008 Williams came after victories against Ernesto Domínguez , Chang Jung-Lin and Fu Che-wei in the quarter-finals, in which he was defeated by the eventual world champion Darren Appleton 6:11. In 2009 Williams was fifth at the Predator International Championship , ninth at the China Open and thirteenth at the US Open. In January 2010, Williams won the 14/1 open-ended competition of the Derby City Classic. At the World Pool Masters 2010 Williams reached the quarter-finals and lost this against the Japanese Tōru Kuribayashi 6-8 . He also reached the round of 64 at the 9-ball World Cup in 2010, as well as the quarter-finals of the 14/1 endless World Cup and 13th place at the US Open. At the 14/1 endless World Cup 2011 he achieved his best result so far at a World Cup by reaching the semi-finals. In 2013 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Scots Jayson Shaw .

Williams was part of the American team at the Mosconi Cup five times ( 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 and 2005 ) and won it four times. In 2011 he was the non-playing team captain for the American team.

Others

In 2001 Williams founded the sports marketing company Dragon Promotions , which initially specialized in pool and now, in addition to the 14/1 endless world championship and other billiards tournaments, also organizes and markets soccer , golf and tennis competitions.

In 2002, Williams was elected chairman of the newly formed US Professional Poolplayers Association .

Williams is the manager of several professional pool players, including Allison Fisher and Rodney Morris .
