Chauncey Welsch
Chauncey Welsch (born May 13, 1927 in New York City , † May 25, 2008 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz and session trombonist.
Welsch began his career in the bands of Andy Kirk , Billy Byers and Cootie Williams . From the mid-1940s he took part in recordings of Benny Goodman ( Fletcher Henderson Arrangements ), Tony Fruscella , Morgana King , Terry Gibbs and Charlie Barnet . In the 1960s he played on recordings with Wes Montgomery ( Movin 'Wes , 1964), Carmen McRae ( Second To None , 1964) and Milton Nascimento ( Courage , 1968). Welsch was also a member of Urbie Green's Ensemble 21 Trombones , with whom he performed in pop sessions with artists such as Barry Manilow and Ashford & Simpson . In the 1970s he worked a. a. with Roberta Flack ( Chapter Two ), with the Bob Florence Big Band, Quincy Jones , from the 1980s with Linda Ronstadt ( What's New - In Concert with Nelson Riddle and His Orchestra ), Yasuko Agawa , Tony Bennett , Lena Horne , Joe Newman , Dr. John , Rosemary Clooney , John Pizzarelli , Diane Schuur and Manhattan Transfer . In the field of jazz he was involved in 240 recording sessions between 1944 and 2003, most recently with Henry Mancini .
