The gmina wiejska Chełmża ([ ˈxɛwmʒa ]) is an independent rural municipality in Poland in the powiat Toruński in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship . It has 9818 inhabitants (June 30, 2019) and has an area of ​​178.7 km², of which 1% is forest and 89% is agricultural area. The administrative seat of the rural community is the city of Chełmża ( German  Culmsee ).

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the historical landscape of the Kulmerland , about 40 kilometers southeast of the district capital Bydgoszcz ( Bromberg ) and about 20 kilometers north of Toruń ( Thorn ). Its territory includes the city of Chełmża completely.
