Chełm is a village with a Schulzenamt of the rural municipality Bochnia in Powiat Bocheński of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland .

geography

The place is on the right bank of the Raba River .

The neighboring towns are Moszczenica in the east, Siedlec in the south, Łężkowice in the southwest, Targowisko in the northwest.

history

Chełm is the oldest village next to Łapczyca in the Bochnia municipality . In the 10th century there was a Slavic rampart . The place was on the trade route from Hungary to Krakow , which was later referred to as Via Regia Antiqua . Chełm was first mentioned in 1198. From that year it belonged with the local church, market and tavern to the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in Miechów .

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Chełm became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). In 1900 the whole village had 204 inhabitants in 42 houses, all of them Polish-speaking and Roman Catholic.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Chełm came to Poland. During the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , it belonged to the Generalgouvernement .

From 1975 to 1998 Chełm was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship .
