Chemtura was an American chemical company. It was one of the largest manufacturers of lubricating greases , calcium sulfonate , bromine , especially for brominated flame retardants , organometallic compounds and urethane prepolymers.
history
Chemtura was created in 2005 through the takeover of the Great Lakes Chemical Corporation from West Lafayette (Indiana) by the Crompton Corporation from Middlebury (Connecticut) . Crompton Corporation was in merger originated from Crompton & Knowles with Witco (1999). This also brought Uniroyal (taken over in 1996) and the Philips Duphar branch in Amsterdam (bought by Uniroyal in 1995) to Chemtura.
The antioxidants and sunscreens business was sold to SK Capital in 2013 and renamed Addivant .
The agrochemicals division was sold to Platform Specialty Products (PSP) in 2014 . In September 2016, Chemtura signed an agreement for the takeover by Lanxess . The acquisition was completed on April 21, 2017.
Products
Pesticides
Before it was sold to PSP, the herbicide dichlobenil , the fungicides mancozeb and oxycarboxin , the insecticides daminozide , diflubenzuron and triflumizole, and the acaricides bifenazate and propargite were produced. Chemtura also manufactured wetting agents based on siloxane ( Silwet ).
