Mancozeb is a chemical compound from the group of dithiocarbamates that is used as a pesticide ( fungicide ).

history

Mancozeb was approved in the United States in 1948 as a broad spectrum fungicide for agriculture and horticulture.

Extraction and presentation

Mancozeb is obtained by reacting Maneb with zinc chloride . It is present as a mixture of manganese-ethylene bisdithiocarbamate and zinc-ethylene bisdithiocarbamate and can be expressed with the ratio formula (C 4 H 6 MnN 2 S 4 ) x · (C 4 H 6 N 2 S 4 Zn) y with x: y = 94: 6 describe.

use

Usage in the USA

Mancozeb is used under various trade names (e.g. Dithane, Manzeb, ...) as an active ingredient in pesticides ( fungicide ) in many agricultural and horticultural products (e.g. many types of fruit, vegetables, nuts and grains, but also potatoes, Wine, corn and cotton), also used in combination with the active ingredients Zineb and Maneb . Mancozeb only has a preventive contact effect.

regulation

The EU approval expired on January 31, 2018. At the national level, Mancozeb is approved in 27 EU countries as well as in Switzerland and is contained in numerous plant protection products. The permitted daily dose is 0.05, the acute reference dose is 0.6 and the acceptable user exposure is 0.035 milligrams per kilogram of body weight and day.
