The China ragwort ( Sinacalia tangutica ) or Tangut ragwort is one of four species of the genus Sinacalia within the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The Chinese rice herb is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 80 to 150 centimeters. It forms a tuberous rhizome . The leaves measure 10 to 16 × 10 to 15 centimeters and are egg or heart-shaped and pinnate. The leaf sections are toothed and broadly lanceolate.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from September to October. The numerous flower heads are arranged in a loose double-screw inflorescence . The envelope measures 8 to 10 × 1.5 to 2 millimeters. The flower head contains two or rarely three golden-yellow ray- flowers (ray-flowers) and three or four tubular-flowers (disc-shaped flowers). The pappus is white.
Chromosome number
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60.
Occurrence
The Chinese rice herb occurs in western and central China from Qinghai and Sichuan to Hebei in mountainous high herbaceous meadows.
In Austria it is naturalized locally, there are occurrences in the Ybbstal Alps . The Chinese rice herb is also a neophyte in Great Britain . In Sweden and Norway it is only inconsistently introduced.

The Chinese rice herb is rarely used as an ornamental plant for large natural gardens and parks. It has been in culture at least since 1900.

The genus Sinacalia belongs to the tribe Senecioneae in the subfamily Asteroideae within the family Asteraceae .
Synonyms for Sinacalia tangutica (Maxim.) B.Nord. are Ligularia tangutica (Maxim.) Mattf. , Cacalia tangutica (Maxim.) Hand.-Mazz. , Senecio henryi Hemsl. and Sinacalia henryi (Hemsl.) H.Rob.
