The Chomutovka (German: Kometau or Komotau , in the upper reaches of Assigbach ) is a left tributary of the Eger (Ohře) in the Czech Republic .

course

It rises from the same high moor as the Schwarze Pockau . Its source lies between the Jelení hora ( Haßberg 993 m) and the demolished village Jilmová ( Ulmbach ) on the ridge of the central Ore Mountains near the border with Saxony . Its upper course was previously called Assigbach .

The town of Hora Sv. Šebestiána ( Sebastiansberg ). At Menhartický vrch ( Müllerberg 848 m) the Chomutovka turns to the southeast and flows into the valley, where it flows through the town of Chomutov ( Komotau ).

Then it crosses a treeless landscape characterized by agriculture in a now flat and open valley and flows through the communities Údlice ( Eidlitz ), Velemyšleves (Welmschloß) and Bitozeves (Witoseß). After 49 km the Chomutovka flows into the Eger near the town of Postoloprty ( Postelberg ) .

The Kamenička ( Neuhauser Flößbach ), a left tributary of the Chomutovka, is dammed in the Komotau dam and flows through the Gröll valley. The Hačka , a right tributary, flows into the Hořenec (Nezabylice) ( Horschenz ) and the Velemyšlevecký potok ( Welmschloßbach ), a left tributary, flows into the Chomutovka at Velemyšleves.

Grundtal

The valley between Sebastiansberg and Komotau, through which the Chomutovka (formerly called Assigbach ) flows, has been called Bezručovo údolí ( Bezruč valley , formerly Grundtal or Grundthal, in Czech Hluboké údolí or Dolina ) since 1946 . Some of the water is collected here as drinking water (waterworks above the former third mill).

There used to be three mills here, two of which are still preserved today.

  • The first basic mill (small mill) - První mlýn, formerly a sawmill, now a guesthouse and restaurant.
  • The second basic mill (Zeinmühle) - Druhá mlýn, today a guesthouse and restaurant. A mill wheel is reminiscent of the old handicraft tradition. The Alois Schmidt memorial used to stand here (in memory of the developer of the valley, chairman of the mountain association and professor at the teacher training institute in Komotau, Chomutov), ​​today there is the Bezruč memorial plaque. The Moravian-Silesian poet Peter Bezruč was never in this valley.
  • The third basic mill (Dörnmühle) - Třetí mlýn, formerly a restaurant and hotel, no longer exists, it fell into disrepair since 1991 and was demolished in 2004. It stood at the confluence of the Assigbach, Neuhauser Flößbach and Krimabach rivers.

In spring when the snow melts and after heavy rainfall, the Chomutovka often leads to heavy floods.

On the western slope of the Komotau is the desert castle Hausberk castle (small remains, ground monument).
