Chow Chung-cheng

Chow Chung-cheng ( Chinese  周仲錚  /  周仲铮 , Pinyin Zhōu Zhòngzhēng , also: Li Chow Chung-cheng , Zhou Zhongzheng , born June 20, 1908 in Tianjin , Chinese Empire ; † August 30, 1996 in Bonn ) was a Chinese-German sinologist , Painter and writer .

Life

Chow Chung-cheng came from an old Chinese family of officials and scholars. At 15, she went away from home against the will of their parents, attended a secondary school and started in Beijing a university degree , which she later in Paris continued. 1935 doctorate she was the first Chinese woman at the Sorbonne a state scientific topic. She then worked as a lecturer for Sinology at the University of Leiden . Her second marriage was to the German Georg von Koeppen. After the end of the Second World War , she ran a Chinese school in Berlin .

From 1950 to 1954 Chow Chung-cheng completed an artistic training in painting at the State Art School in Hamburg with Alfred Mahlau and in Stuttgart with Willi Baumeister . From 1956 she lived with her husband in Bonn .

Chow Chung-cheng worked as a visual artist in the fields of oil painting , watercolor and graphics. In addition, from 1957 she published a series of books for children and young people in German , in which she dealt mainly with topics from her Chinese homeland.
