Chriesbach in Dübendorf with a view down the stream

The Chriesbach rises at 512  m above sea level. M. as Dürrenbach a little east of the Volketswiler settlement area in the Flur Hinterberg , which is characterized by fields. Initially overturned for around 1.7 km, it crosses under the fields as well as the farms Lattenhof and Zur Brugglen above Volketswil. It appears for the first time between the Mattenhof and the Sunnehalde .

It flows to the northwest through a drumlin landscape and is accompanied by individual trees with loose shrubbery, which border fields on the left and a field path on the right, which ends after crossing under Landenbergstrasse . The stream now reaches the swimming pool and briefly turns towards the southwest until it reaches a gravel pit and the shooting range. Here it turns to the south-east and after a short run again to the south-west. It crosses under the Oberlandautobahn near Hegnau , where it overturns again and is directed towards the northwest. In doing so, it flows partially below the Dübendorf military airfield and reaches the municipal boundary to Wangen-Brüttisellen early on, where it is called Dürrbach a little later. In earlier times the brook flowed through the area of today's airfield, where there was a large peat bog that stretched as far as Brüttisellen and is now drained .

Chriesbach in the border area of Wangen, Dietikon and Dübendorf

At Öniken it reappears and at the same time forms a natural barrier to the airfield. After crossing under an airfield building, it separates the Oberlandautobahn from it. At the Wangen motorway exit , he turns to the south-west and a little later crosses the municipal boundary to Dietlikon. Here it takes its most important tributary with the Altbach immediately afterwards and is now called Chriesbach. While the stream borders fields and trees on the right bank, the Eglishölzli and Chriesmatt quarters, which are already on Dübendorfer Boden, are on the left bank . These are traversed by the Chrebsschüsselibach, which comes from the south-east of the airport area and runs parallel to the Chriesbach over a distance of around 200 meters, passing several ponds, before it flows into it from the left.

After the confluence of the Brandbach it reaches the Dübendorfer municipality and after a short run it penetrates completely into the built-up area. It crosses the Kriesbach district and passes under the S9 railroad tracks , before reaching a renatured section that extends to its mouth. He passed the Forum Chriesbach of Eawag and is bridged by the tracks of the tram line 12 , between the stations Neugut and casting , as well as the Ringstrasse . Finally it flows into 427  m above sea level. M. in the hall Sack directly on the overland road , which leads to Schwamendingen , in the upper reaches of the Glatt.

Catchment area

The 32.8 km² catchment area is composed of 37.6% built-up area, 35.2% agricultural area and 27.1% near-natural area and forest. The highest point is 566  m above sea level. M. on the southern slope of the Jungholz , the average height is 476  m above sea level. M.
