Christopher Robert Lionel Abrahams (born April 9, 1961 in Oamaru , New Zealand ) is an Australian film composer , pianist and keyboardist who has emerged primarily in modern jazz and improvisation music.

Life

Abrahams, who grew up in Sydney , first played jazz with Mark Simmonds' Freeboppers and The Keys Music Orchestra . In 1982 he founded The Benders ; he was then a member of the Australian bands The Sparklers and The Necks ; he has also worked with Peter Blakeley, Jackie Orszaczky and Ed Kuepper. Since 1985 he has recorded several solo albums. As a studio musician , he was active for The Church , Stephen Cummings , Midnight Oil , Margareth Kammerer , Laughing Clowns and Silverchair . In the following years he continued to perform with musicians such as Jon Rose , Burkhard Beins , Sabine Vogel , Kai Fagaschinski or Mike Cooper and the ensembles Hammeriver and The Somnambulist (album Sophia Verloren ); he has given concerts in London with Andrea Belfi and David Toop .

Abrahams has written and produced soundtracks for several feature and documentary films; his music for Australian film The Tender Hook was nominated for the 2008 AFI Award for Best Score.
