Christopher "Chris" Eaden (born August 30, 1990 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand ice hockey player who has played for the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League since 2007 . In the 2010-11 season he also played for the Bradford Rattlers and Elliot Lake Bobcats in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League .
Career
Chris Eaden started ice hockey when he was eight. After founding the Canterbury Red Devils in his hometown of Christchurch in 2005, he initially worked for the Red Devils' junior team. For the first team Eaden first played in the 2007 season in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League . He played all his team's games and only failed in the final when they lost 7-0 to Botany Swarm . At the championship tournament of the U19 juniors in August 2007 he won the title with the Red Devils and was voted best striker. The next year he was the third best scorer in the league and again lost to the Botany Swarn with the Red Devils, this time with 2: 3 after extra time. In the 2009 season, both Eaden and his team dominated the league. He scored the most goals, assists and points and his team was in first place after the regular season. In the final they played against the Southern Stampede and could defeat them 5: 4, so that Eaden won his first championship with the Red Devils. The New Zealander then moved to the Bradford Rattlers in the Canadian Junior League Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League . There he and his team reached the semi-finals of the play-offs , but then retired in a best-of-seven series with 1: 4. For the 2010 season of the NZIHL Eaden was back in the Canterbury Red Devils squad and was again top scorer of the league with 47 points. He spent the 2010/11 season again in the Canadian Junior League GMHL with his ex-team Bradford Rattlers and the Elliot Lake Bobcats. In the 2011 season Eaden was again top scorer of the NZIHL, whose top scorer he was also. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 he won his championship titles two, three and four with the Red Devils, and in the 2012 season he was also voted the most valuable player in the league as top scorer, top scorer and best preparer .
International
For New Zealand Eaden took part in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championships in Division III in 2007 and 2008 , when he was the best striker and top scorer of the tournament, and in the U20 World Junior Championship in Division III in 2008 . Especially at the U20 World Cup in Division III in 2008, he was able to convince as the top scorer, top scorer and assist as well as the best attacker and best player in his team.
Eaden made his debut in the senior national team at the Divisions III World Cup in 2009 , which was held in New Zealand . As the second youngest player in the squad, he was the third best scorer and thus contributed to promotion. At the World Cup of Division II in Estonia in 2010 , Eaden was the best scorer of his team, but New Zealand only reached fourth place out of six participating teams. At the World Cup of Division II in 2011 , he finished second with his team and was second best goalscorer of the tournament behind the Australian Joey Hughes . It then took six years before he was considered in the national team again and played again in Division II at the 2017 World Cup .
