Chris Hunter (Artist)

Chris Hunter (* 1983 in Chur ) is a Swiss artist , curator , art educator and performer .

Career

Chris Hunter grew up in Flims ( Graubünden ). From 2005 to 2008 he studied at the University of Education in Graubünden , graduating with a Bachelor of Arts PH in Primary Education . He has been designing and building stage sets since 2008, initially for the Chur Theater . In 2011, together with Corsin Zarn and Roman Weishaupt, he initiated the Grisons Young Theater , a funding project for young acting amateurs in all three Grisons language regions, and became a board member of the Chur Young Theater. In 2017 in Graubünden he designed both the garbage bag for the community of Films as an artist. When he won an art in building competition, he installed his work Anung in the MMK Bündner Kantonsschule extension .

His art studies took him to Basel, where he studied at the HGK Basel, the Bacherlor of Arts in Fine Arts in 2013 and completed his master's degree from 2017 to 2019. He was a founding member and co-organizer of the artists and curators collective s Dr. Cuckoo Labrador . which has realized over 20 exhibition projects since 2012. He worked on productions with the artist groups Les Reines Prochaines and Evi, Nic & C and describes himself as an artist * on his Instagram account.

He works as a multimedia artist with performance , video , object art , installation , photography , often with an updated idea of Ready Made / object trouvè and ironically humorous transformations of everyday objects and styles. In a publication on his work, which appears in the series Art in Southeast Switzerland in cooperation with the Bündner Kunstmuseum, it is said about his works: «He knows how to stage the works in such a way that the viewer follows the traces that are inscribed on the objects, follow and open our eyes to aspects of life that we are no longer able to filter out in an overstimulated environment. "
