Christian Bellest
Christian Bellest (born April 8, 1922 in Paris ; † December 6, 2001 ) was a French jazz musician ( trumpet , arrangement ) and author who was also active as an entertainment musician .
Act
Bellest played in Paris during the occupation by the German Wehrmacht in the band of Fred Adison , with whom the first recordings were made around 1939/40, also with Alix Combelle , Hubert Rostaing , Django Reinhardt ("Stockholm", 1940), Charles Trenet ( "Verlaine", 1941), Aimé Barelli , Maceo Jefferson , Jerry Mengo , Alex Renard and Claude Laurence . He had a small role in the feature film Chèque au porteur (1941, directed by Jean Boyer ).
After the liberation of Paris and in the post-war period, he recorded several swing tracks such as "Elle et lui", "Lilo" and "67 Rue Couperin" for Decca Records for the first time under his own name in 1944/45 ; he also played with Noël Chiboust , André Ekyan , Eddie Barclay , Géo Daly , Raymond Fol , Sidney Bechet , Dave Pochonet , Jack Dieval , Pierre Michelot , William Boucaya , from 1955 with Christian Chevallier , Lucky Thompson , Armand Migiani , Claude Bolling , Jacques Hélian and Martial Solal . In the late 1950s he was a member of André Hodeir's Le Jazz Groupe de Paris , with whom he stayed until 1966. The discographer Tom Lord lists Noel at 66 recording sessions between 1940 and 1966.
Bellest also worked with his own studio formations ( Christian Bellest et son Orchester ), with whom he released several records, such as the single Rockin 'the Blues / Two O'clock Jump for Blue Star , the 1960 pop EP Rue de Siam (Vega) , the jazz track “Tout Doux Tout Doucement” (1959), also “Quand une fille me plait” (a French version of Bob Haggart's “Big Noise from Winnetka”), “Les Enfants du Piree” (an easy-listening version of the Schlagers Ta pedia tou Pirea by Manos Hadjidakis 1960) and a single with Paul Anka ( Waiting for You / Faibles Femmes ), which was released on ABC Paramount . He also arranged for Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour .
With Lucien Malson , Bellest wrote the book Le Jazz (Collection Que sais-je?, PUF, 1988) in later years .
