Armand Migiani

Armand Migiani (born January 22, 1919 in Monte Grimano ; † October 28, 2008 in Précy ) was a French jazz musician ( baritone saxophone ) and arranger , who from the 1960s mostly worked as an entertainment musician and also as a film composer .

Migiani played while in Paris during the time of the occupation by the German Wehrmacht in Aimé Barelli's band , with whom the first recordings for Pathé were made around 1943. After the liberation of Paris and in the post-war period he played in Barelli's orchestra with Django Reinhardt (“Yesterdays”, 1952), from 1954 also with Bobby Jaspar , André Hodeir , Christian Chevallier , Chet Baker , Claude Bolling , Martial Solal , Bill Coleman and with Kenny Clarke ( Kenny Clarke's sextet plays André Hodeir ). 1956 Migiani recorded several titles for Polydor for the first time under his own name ; Christian Bellest , Roger Guerin , Charles Verstraete , William Boucaya , Georges Grenu , Maurice Vander , Pierre Michelot and Roger Paraboschi played in his studio band . In the late 1950s he was a member of André Hodeir's Le Jazz Groupe de Paris ; he also worked for Michel Legrand . In the 1960s and 1970s he continued to play in the orchestras of Bolling, Legrand, Hodeir and Chevallier; he also recorded light music with his own studio formations. The discographer Tom Lord lists Migiani in 59 recording sessions between 1943 and 1975.

From the mid-1950s, Migiani accompanied various pop and pop singers such as Paule Dejardins ("Il est là"), Marcel Amont , Maria Candido ("1, 2, 3 amoureux") for recordings as Armand Migiani et son Orchester , Bob Martin, Janique Aimée , Johnny Hallyday ( Les Chevaliers Du Ciel / Jet - Jerk , 1967), Simone Real ("Mon amant de Saint-Jean"), Annie Cordy / Luis Mariano ("Les moustiques") and Jacques Verrières . He also made solo recordings under the pseudonym Billy's Sax .
