The Baron von Münchhausen (original title: Les Fabuleuses Aventures du légendaire baron de Münchhausen ) is a French cartoon by Jean Image from 1979 based on stories by Gottfried August Bürger . The alternative titles are The daring Baron of Lies - Münchhausen and his cunning pranks and The wondrous adventures of the legendary Baron Münchhausen .

action

Baron Münchhausen , who lives in his ancestral castle, is sitting at his table with his friends and is telling some of his fabulous stories once again. He would have once caught a flock of wild ducks with a leash attached to bait. However, he was temporarily lifted into the air by the swarm. On another day he successfully chased a hare that, thanks to its eight paws, did not tire while running.

When suddenly a messenger from the king brings the baron a message that he should bring a present to the Pasha von Trukesban, he leaves immediately. On his trip he makes five new friends who will accompany him on the rest of the trip: Sausebraus, who can run faster than a horse, biceps, a man with enormous strength, Blasius, who can run windmills with his breath, Tele, a hunter with special good eyes, and listen, who hears the grass growing.

He has a couple of small adventures on his journey, including another hunting adventure. Instead of shot, he shoots cherry stones in the forehead of a deer and at the same time a cherry tree grows out of the forehead, which hinders the deer from walking. When he arrives at the Pascha's, he brings the present, a ball toy.

A small ceremony is held in honor of the baron. There is a bet. The baron claims that within an hour he will serve the pasha a most delicious wine from his castle, a tokaya , which is better than the pasha's wine. The pasha promised the baron, should this work, as much gold as a single man could carry. With the help of Sausebraus, who quickly fetches the bottle, the baron wins the bet. The baron goes into the Pasha's treasure chamber with biceps and the pashas himself carries the treasure away in a large sack. However, the Orientals feel cheated and try to chase after their friends without success.

After the baron donated the treasure to charitable purposes and separated from his new friends, Orientals arrested him and threw him into the dungeon of a fortress before he actually went home. When the fortress was attacked by cannons, he was able to free himself by riding a cannonball. He saved himself on a cloud, where he immediately fell asleep. While he sleeps, the cloud shrinks and he falls into the depths of the sea. There he meets a pretty mermaid named Sirena. Since he cannot survive permanently under water, he is brought to the surface of the water, where he is rescued on a raft by a large sailing ship. Soon after, the ship is swallowed by a large whale. Other ships are trapped in the whale's belly. Blasius is on one of these ships. The baron has the ships connected in series with ropes so that they are ready to tow each other. He instructs Blasius to blow on the ships' sails. Because of the coldness of the wind in its throat, the whale opens its mouth. The ships are released.

The sailors of the ship on which the baron is happily celebrate their liberation. But the festival is interrupted by the raid of giant vultures. The seafarers are kidnapped by these. The baron is brought to justice by the birds. He is condemned as an example for the cruelty of humans towards birds. He is thrown into a crater. Thanks to the erupting volcano, he was able to escape again into the air on the spit out rubble, where he was rescued by the balloon driving Blasius. He has his niece, the pretty Irena, who has a strong resemblance to the mermaid, with him. The baron bursts the balloon above his castle with his sword. The baron falls and lands on the empty chair in the middle of his table, where his friends, to whom he has just told the story, are waiting for him. The baron, still completely lost in his dreams, admits to himself that everything probably only happened in his imagination.
