During the winter months, Erhard maintained a number of private circles in his house for literary entertainment and social enjoyment. The most educated and respected families in Leipzig were invited. He was also in friendly contact with the poets Christoph Martin Wieland , Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .
Erhard was involved in various Leipzig societies. He was a member of the Leipzig Masonic Lodge "Minerva to the Three Palms". In numerous poems he praised the virtues of "masonry".
