Christian Friedrich of Braunschweig

Christian Friedrich von Braunschweig (* 1720 in Pomerania ; † October 6, 1787 in Opole ) was a Prussian officer , most recently major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Podewils" No. 9 .

Life

Christian Friedrich was the only son of the Prussian captain Christian von Braunschweig (* April 12, 1694; † 1722), heir to Karvin and his wife Sophie Dorothea, born von Damitz (* 1699; † August 28, 1776).

In 1739 Braunschweig was employed as an Estandartenjunker in the cuirassier regiment "Eugen von Anhalt" No. 6 of the Prussian Army . On February 20, 1740 he was Kornet and on May 12, 1744 Lieutenant . As such, he took his regiment into the campaign in 1744/45 . On July 27, 1755, Braunschweig was briefly assigned to the Hussar Regiment "von Wartenburg" No. 3 . After returning to his cuirassiers , on October 9, 1756, he was promoted to staff rank master and took part in the 1756/63 campaign . In the meantime, on January 15, 1758, he had become captain and company commander . After the Peace of Hubertusburg he rose to major (March 20, 1763) and lieutenant colonel (May 20, 1775). In the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79, his regiment did not take part in any significant fighting.

On June 19, 1780, Friedrich the Great handed over command of the "von Rohr" cuirassier regiment No. 6 to Braunschweig. Two years later he became a colonel and, on September 19, 1784, finally head of the "von Podewils" cuirassier regiment No. 9 the king promoted him to major general on July 30, 1785.

family

Braunschweig was married to Wilhelmine Dorothea, born von Schonberg (* June 8, 1747, † March 31, 1813). The marriage had four children:

  • Henriette Charlotte Friederike Wilhelmine (* 1773; † February 6, 1842) ∞ Karl Anton Xaver Thaddäus von Schlichten (1764–1841), Prussian major general
  • Wilhelm Friedrich (* 1780; † September 12, 1817), Prussian officer, most recently captain in Infantry Regiment No. 6
