Christian Gottlob Leberecht Großmann (born November 9, 1783 in Prießnitz , † June 29, 1857 in Leipzig ) was a German theologian .

origin

His parents were the pastor Johann Gottlob Großmann (1740-1824) and his wife the pastor's daughter Johanna Eleonora Wilhelmina Börner (1761-1836).

Life

Christian Gottlob Leberecht Grossmann entered 1808 in the clergy, was in 1822 deacon and professor in Schulpforta and 1823 General Superintendent, court preacher and consistory in Altenburg , where he in 1829 as superintendent, professor of theology and pastor at the St. Thomas Church of Leipzig was appointed. A member of the Saxon First Chamber since 1833 , he has always represented the cause of progress and, in particular, raised his voice for a more independent position of the church in the state. Above all, however, the establishment of the Gustav Adolf Foundation is his work.

Großmann joined the Masonic Lodge Zu den three Drawing Boards in Altenburg in 1811 , but asked for his dismissal again in 1815, "in order to remain a mason independent of the Lodge in terms of meaning and change".

Among his writings, apart from sermons, the following should be emphasized: Quaestionum Philonearum (Leipzig 1829, 2 vol.); About a reformation of the Protestant church constitution in the Kingdom of Saxony (Leipzig 1833).

family

In 1814 he married the pastor's daughter Henriette Doering (1793–1872). The couple had one son and three daughters, including:
