Christian Jacob Koitsch

Christian Jacob Koitsch (born September 13, 1671 in Meißen ; † August 21, 1734 in Elbing ) was a German pietistic theologian and hymn poet .

Life

Christian Jacob Koitsch was born in Meissen on September 13, 1671. His matriculation to study theology at the University of Halle took place on August 25, 1696; his teachers there were Joachim Justus Breithaupt and August Hermann Francke . As the successor to Jakob Baumgarten (1668–1722), the father of Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten , Koitsch became a teacher at the Francke Foundations after studying in Glaucha near Halle on the Saale . From 1700 to 1705 he was also an inspector at the pedagogy . Then he went to Elbing as rector and professor at the local grammar school . As such, he made services to the grammar school. He finally died in Elbing on August 21, 1734 at the age of 62.

Koitsch composed sacred songs; ten of them were included in the witty hymn book by Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen .
