Christian Rainer (born December 13, 1961 in Gmunden ) is an Austrian journalist. He is editor-in-chief and publisher of the news magazine profil .

Life

Rainer studied law and economics in Vienna . According to his own admission, he became a journalist by chance when, in view of the “ Waldheim Affair ” in 1986, he first began to write for the Vienna weekly newspaper Falter .

His journalistic career led him to the Arbeiter-Zeitung , the party organ of the SPÖ at the time , where he started as a business editor, rose to head of the department for economics and finance and was finally deputy editor-in-chief until 1990. Subsequently, he was head of the economics and finance department of WirtschaftsWoche Austria and until 1997 its editor-in-chief.

From May 1997 to autumn 2008 Rainer was co-editor and editor-in-chief of the business magazine trend . Since July 1998 he has been the publisher and editor-in-chief of the news magazine profil . During this time, the magazine group of the Kurier newspaper publisher (including profil and trend ) merged with the publishing group News (including news , format ) in 2001 .

Christian Rainer is considered one of the top earners among Austria's journalists. According to his own statements in September 2008, he was earning 8,600 euros a month at the time. In industry journals, an annual gross salary of more than 300,000 euros, including bonuses and special payments, was assumed.

Christian Rainer is a member of the board of trustees of the children's aid organization Plan International Germany . He is the nephew of the Austrian painter Arnulf Rainer .
