Christian Rauch (pedagogue)
Christian Hinrich Jacob Rauch (born February 22, 1813 in Schleswig ; † July 8, 1887 in Berlin ) was a German educator , textbook author and member of the Schleswig-Holstein state assembly .
Life
After finishing school, Rauch studied natural sciences at the University of Kiel and devoted himself primarily to mathematics . He graduated with a doctorate to the doctor of philosophy from.
In 1841 Rauch founded a trade school for building craftsmen in Kiel . In 1842 he founded a polytechnic school and in the same year a secondary school for girls . In 1847 he wrote a textbook on arithmetic .
During the Schleswig-Holstein uprising , Rauch was president of the Kiel workers' association and from 1850 until its dissolution in 1851 a member of the Schleswig-Holstein regional assembly. In 1850 he was tried for “ demagogic activities”. In 1851 he was arrested and imprisoned in Rendsburg for half a year . After his release in December 1851, he and his family moved to the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck, which is sovereign under international law . While looking for a new job, Rauch studied astronomy , gave lectures in various cities and published works on the subject.
In 1854 he was appointed to teach at the mountain school in Essen . Rauch taught planimetry , stereometry , algebra , arithmetic , German and calligraphy . He adapted his textbook on arithmetic to his new job and published the second edition in 1857. In 1861 he wrote his textbook on planimetry and construction theory . He worked there as a teacher until the mountain school was closed in 1864.
family
Rauch was married to Rosalie Préalle (1817–1875) since March 18, 1842. She was a daughter of Charles Préalle (1773–1855), who came from Belgium and who had built a high school for girls and a boys' school . In addition, Préalle had taught the seven sons of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg in the French language . The Rauch couple had several children.
