Christiane Florin (* 1968 in Troisdorf ) is a German political scientist and journalist . Until the end of 2015 she was the editor-in-chief of the supplement Christ und Welt in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and is now part of the “Religion and Society” editorial team at Deutschlandfunk .

Life

Florin studied after passing the High School at a school in a Catholic sponsorship 1987-1993 Political Science , Modern History and Musicology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and at Sciences Po in Paris. She finished her studies with a master's degree . In the early 1990s she worked on Hans-Helmuth Knütter 's research on anti-fascism . In 1996, she was at Knütter with a thesis on Philippe Petain and Pierre Laval Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1993 to 1996 Florin worked for the press office of the Representation of the European Commission. From 1996 she worked for the Christian weekly newspaper Rheinischer Merkur . From 2007 to 2010 she headed the feature section of this newspaper. From December 2010 to the end of 2015 she was the editor-in-chief of the supplement Christ and World in parts of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . Since January 2016 she has been part of the “Religion and Society” editorial team at Deutschlandfunk . She is also a lecturer in the fields of media policy and media culture at the Institute for Political Science and Sociology at the University of Bonn. She processed her experiences there in the essay Why our students are so adapted, published in 2014 as a book .

In addition, Florin works as a freelance writer. She has authored several books and articles in various media. She has repeatedly been a guest on ecclesiastical and Christian-religious topics, including the ARD talk show Günther Jauch and the WDR press club .

In May 2017, Florin published the pamphlet Der Weiberaufstand. Why women need more power in the Catholic Church . In June 2017, she opened a website with the same title agenda, Der Weiberaufstand , which documents the debate on the subject.

In March 2019, she commented on the documentary on arte-tv about the sexual abuse of nuns by clerics.

Private

Florin is married and has two children. She describes herself as "no longer regular churchgoer".
