Christiane Spatt (born 1966 in Innsbruck ) is a contemporary Austrian artist. She works artistically in the fields of painting , photography , collage and installation .

Live and act

Christiane Spatt grew up in Tyrol , where she graduated from high school . Between 1985 and 1995 she studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Oswald Oberhuber , Ernst Caramelle and Mario Terzic , who also supervised her thesis . In 1986, during her studies, she received a scholarship from the Tyrolean provincial government .

Christiane Spatt's picture and collage components come from an environment that is directly related to her origin, e.g. B. from the attic of her parents' house. With which the artist also pursues her cultural identity in her work. In collages, she is interested in the act of appropriating elements of everyday culture , their decontextualization and recoding new composition. Her main artistic interest is “cultural spaces in which she addresses traces of the past in the present. She finds traces of this kind in artefacts , wallpaper - ornaments , photographs from the family album and curious furnishings from bourgeois society. "

Spatt is a representative of “a staged photography”. In her art she often takes up autobiographical themes that she implements in series. She often uses self-presentation as an artistic stylistic device, especially when it comes to topics such as cultural imprinting and identity. “She slips into different roles and thereby sets the scene for the UM room. Often she stages the recordings, sometimes she also becomes part of an ambience discovered by chance. The focus is on the question of the self and self-reflection. "

The artist is a member of the IG Bildende Kunst , the Tyrolean Artists 'Association , the Emergence of Projects (eop) network and the GEDOK artists' association . Her works of art are in the public possession of the Federal Chancellery in Vienna, Innsbruck Cultural Office, the Tyrol Cultural Department, the Austrian National Bank , the Hypo Tirol Bank and the Innsbruck City Archives .

Christiane Spatt lives and works in Vienna.
