Christl Prange (born May 27, 1937 as Christl Lucas in Erfurt ) is a German artist and tapestry weaver.

Life

Christl Prange grew up in Erfurt and after graduating from high school completed a three-year apprenticeship as a hand weaver with the Bauhaus student Margaretha Reichardt in Erfurt- Bischleben . She then studied from 1958 to 1964 at Giebichenstein Castle in Halle (Saale) . In 1962 she voluntarily interrupted her studies for a year to expand her knowledge of the textile industry. After graduating, Christl Prange worked from 1964 to 1966 as chairwoman of a hand weaving cooperative in Rostock . She married the veterinarian and later Professor Hartwig Prange and has two daughters with him. Several moves were associated with her husband's work. The family lived from 1966 to 1967 in Groß Mohrdorf near Stralsund , from 1967 to 1979 in Eberswalde , from 1979 to 1996 in Jena and since 1996 in Halle (Saale).

Act

Christl Prange has been living as a freelance visual artist, author and jury member since 1966. She does the rare work of picture knitting and in this context also deals with the design of parament . In 1966 she designed and woven a green antependium for the church in Groß-Mohrdorf and took part in the competition for the castle church in Wittenberg (purple antependium). In Jena, too, the artist designed tapestries for public institutions and various churches and woven some of them herself. Some of the carpets for the churches were made with the Jena textile artist Barbara Schröder, others were woven by the parament workshop in Eisenach .

Christl Prange is a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists, the Marienberg Association for Protestant Paramentics (since 1998) and the Thuringian textile artist group TAT. In 1989 she received a scholarship in Riga, Latvia.

In Jena, Christl Prange ran the small gallery of the Kulturbund der GDR together with her husband from 1981 to 1988 (34 exhibitions) and directed the advanced training for female circle leaders in Rudolstadt. In Erfurt and Halle she was active in the professional association of visual artists and was committed to the association's cultural work and to art in public spaces. In Halle in particular, the jury (activities in Erfurt, Halle, Berlin, Heidelberg, Dessau, among others), the authorship, the lecture work and the training work for the Paramentists were added.

In Halle, Christl Prange mainly designed antependums, some of which were created in collaboration with the parament workshop in Eisenach, such as B. the year-round grant 2002 (four liturgical colors in one piece) for the Wartburg in Eisenach. As an artist, she also worked on free drafts and sketches.
