Christoph Müller (diplomat)

Christoph Müller (born December 20, 1950 in Herrsching am Ammersee ) is a retired German diplomat . He was most recently 2011-2016 Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Canberra , Australia .

Life

After graduating from high school and training as a reserve officer for mountain troops , he studied law at the universities of Augsburg and Munich . In 1980 he received a Master of Arts degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University , Medford . 1984 doctorate he with a dissertation on the subject of the human rights as a foreign policy objective. In 1981 he entered the diplomatic service . After serving at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to NATO in Brussels, at the Foreign Office in Bonn (keynote address for disarmament issues) and the German Embassy in the People's Republic of China , he became Deputy Head of the German Delegation at the Geneva Disarmament Conference in 1990 .

Subsequently, from 1993 to 1996, Müller was deputy head of the policy department for international law issues at the Federal Foreign Office. From 1996 to 1998 he was first permanent representative of the ambassador to Zimbabwe and then until 2000 head of the political department at the embassy in India . From 2000 to 2003 he was head of the South Asia department and the Afghanistan special staff at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Before his current assignment, he was Deputy Head of the Legal Department at the Foreign Office.

He was ambassador to Peru from 2006 to 2011 . During Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to Peru from May 15 to 17, 2008, Christoph Müller was her host.

From September 2011 to June 2016, Christoph Müller was Ambassador to Australia, successor to Michael Witter , who in turn became Ambassador to Morocco . As ambassador to Australia, he was also in Papua New Guinea and the Republics of Vanuatu , Nauru and the Solomon Islands accredited .
