Christoph "Sunny" Mudrich (born April 22, 1960 in Saarbrücken ; † December 15, 2019 ) was a German jazz musician ( piano , composition) and big band leader .

Christoph Mudrich was the son of the writer Eva Maria Mudrich and the journalist Heinz Mudrich (feature editor of the Saarbrücker Zeitung ). After attending the German-French grammar school in Saarbrücken and graduating from the grammar school at the castle in Saarbrücken, he studied German literature and philosophy in Mainz and Saarbrücken from 1980 to 1985. He has been involved in various jazz formations as a jazz pianist since 1978 , and in 1985 he decided to make freelance jazz music.

Since 1989 he has led various big bands. From 1990 to 2004 he was artistic director of the Saarland Youth Jazz Orchestra , and since 2004 he has directed the Saar Youth Jazz Ensemble . In 2006, he took over the management of the university big band Windmachine at Saarland University . The Christmas album Christmas in Blue was released in 1993 with his trio and singer Heinrich "Sir Henry" Thiel . Mudrich can also be heard on albums by Re-Bop (with Peter Decker ), the CMMC-BIGBAND feat Bobby Shew , Nicole Metzger and in the radio play Zwei Monster . Most recently his album Beneath the Underdog with his nonet was released in 2019 (with Anette von Eichel , Ralph Himmler, Kristina Brodersen , Johannes Müller, Alisa Klein, Arnulf Ochs, Dirk Kunz and Dirik Schilgen ).

In 1985 he received the cultural sponsorship award of the state capital Saarbrücken. In addition to his work as a musician, he was a successful teacher for jazz piano and ensembles, also within the framework of the Sulzbach jazz workshop , which he organized for 30 years.
