Christoph Stymmel , also Stummel or Christophorus Stymmelius , (born October 22, 1525 in Frankfurt (Oder) , † February 19, 1588 in Stettin ) was a Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of Pomerania-Stettin from 1570 to 1572 .

Live and act

Christoph Stymmel comes from a famous family in the Oderstadt Frankfurt. In his hometown he attended the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt , where he received a baccalaureus and master's degree in 1545, and a doctorate in theology ten years later. Stymmel became head of the Beeskow School and came to Lübbenau in the Spreewald as court preacher . From Lübbenau he moved to Lutherstadt Wittenberg , but not for long: he took over preaching services in Crossen on the Oder.

On September 30, 1556 he was appointed pastor at the Marienstiftskirche in Stettin . In the Pomeranian city he resisted the Osiandrian doctrine , which also found supporters in Stettin. In 1561, Stymmel was sent to the Naumburg Fürstentag with three other representatives from Pomerania . In addition, he devoted himself in Stettin to work on a church ordinance for Pomerania. In 1566 Stymmel was appointed superintendent and cathedral preacher in Merseburg . However, he did not stay there long, but returned to his office in Stettin on April 18, 1567. In Stettin, after Fabian Timäus left the company , Stymmel was appointed to the post of general superintendent for Pomerania-Stettin. He was very committed to this task, but his poor health forced him to resign after only two years. His successor was Johann Cogeler .

Christoph Stymmel was married to Barbara Weidlich from Frankfurt (Oder).
