Ciprian Andrei Marica [ 'tʃiprian an'drɛʲ' marika ] (born October 2, 1985 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player .

Career

societies

Marica started his career at Dinamo Bucharest . At the age of 18 he moved to the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk , for which he also played in the Champions League .

In July 2007 he moved to the then German champions VfB Stuttgart . The contract ran for five years. He made his Bundesliga debut on August 10, 2007 against FC Schalke 04 . He scored his first goal in the 1st Bundesliga on November 24, 2007 in the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt . On November 27, 2007 he scored his first Champions League goal for VfB Stuttgart against Glasgow Rangers . In February 2011 he was sorted out by coach Bruno Labbadia despite the contract until 2012 and was no longer used in the second half of the 2010/11 season . On July 12, 2011, Marica's contract with VfB Stuttgart was terminated by mutual agreement.

During the summer break of 2011, Marica moved to FC Schalke 04 , where he signed a two-year contract with an option for another year. He made his first appearance for Schalke on the second match day of the 2011/12 season in a 5-1 win against 1. FC Köln when he came on for Raúl in the 82nd minute . In his two years at Schalke he mostly played the role as a substitute, only rarely did Marica play a game from the start or over 90 minutes (this was often the case when the regular number one striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was suspended or injured). Due to the lack of time he spent on the field, he only scored five goals in the Bundesliga, three goals in the DFB Cup and one goal in the Europa League in two years. Schalke did not use the option to extend their contract at the end of the 2012/13 season.

On September 27, 2013, Marica signed a one-year contract with Getafe FC .

In summer 2014 he moved to Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig . With this club he played until October 2015 and then left for Steaua Bucharest .

His employment contract at Steaua Bucharest ended on June 30, 2016. After almost 5 months without a club, he ended his career as a professional footballer on October 31, 2016 at the age of 31.

National team

Marica in the national team jersey

Marica made his first appearance for the Romanian national soccer team at the age of 18 on November 16, 2003 against Italy. At the end of May 2011, national coach Răzvan Lucescu appointed him as the successor to Cristian Chivu as team captain . Lucescu's successor Victor Pițurcă then decided, however, for Răzvan Raț as captain. As of 2014, he did not play any A-internationals for Romania.
