Claude Vasconi

Claude Vasconi (born June 24, 1940 in Rosheim , Alsace , † December 8, 2009 in Paris ) was a French architect.

Life

Claude Vasconi studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries (ENSAIS) de Strasbourg in Strasbourg and was assistant to Rolf Gutbrod and Frei Otto in Stuttgart . In 1964 he opened his own office in Paris. He became known with the project of the prefecture in Cergy-Pontoise (1969) and the urban planning competition of Le Forum des Halles (1973 to 1979) in Paris. He became internationally known with the 1979 with the project "Auto Renault" at the headquarters of Renault in the industrial town of Boulogne-Billancourt was realized from which, however, only the "Project 57", metal processing factory. This was followed by construction projects such as the “Corum” opera and congress center in Montpellier, the congress center in Reims and the court of justice in Grenoble.

From 1990 he worked increasingly in Germany, in 1997 he founded Claude Vasconi & Partner Architects in Berlin. On behalf of Herlitz Falkenhöh, he converted the halls at the Borsigturm (1994 to 1999) into a shopping center, as well as the Grand Bateau office building in Düsseldorf (1999) and the "Quartier 30" on Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt .

Vasconi taught in Montellier and was visiting professor in Montreal and at the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) in Sofia / Bulgaria. He has been honored several times for his extensive work, including the Grand prix national de l'architecture in 1982 for the “Autowerk Renault” and in 1996 honorary membership in the Association of German Architects (BDA) . Vasconi had been a member of the “ Académie d'Architecture ” since 1991 . In 2008 he was appointed Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres .
