Claudia Schmidtke (born March 29, 1966 in Neumünster ) is a German doctor and politician ( CDU ). She was elected as a direct candidate in the German Bundestag in September 2017 . Since January 2019, she has been the Federal Government Commissioner for patient concerns .

Life, education and work

After graduating from high school in Neumünster, Schmidtke studied human medicine at the University of Hamburg . Following her license to practice medicine , she first went to France and worked as a doctor in intensive care and general surgery in Lorraine . She then worked at various clinics in Germany, including cardiology in Kiel . She received her training as a specialist in cardiac surgery at the University of Lübeck . Her academic career culminated after promotion to Doctor of Medicine and the habilitation in a professorship . Her habilitation thesis (2004) treated the Ross operation as an alternative replacement procedure for the diseased aortic valve .

Schmidtke worked as a senior physician in the Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery on the Lübeck campus of the Schleswig-Holstein University Medical Center . In addition, she completed an extra-occupational degree in health care management, which she completed with an MBA . Since 2014 she has been working as a senior physician in cardiovascular surgery at the Bad Segeberg Heart Center , where she is the deputy chief physician. She is also a member of the doctoral committee of the University of Lübeck. She completed a training course for gender medicine at the German Society for Gender- Specific Medicine .

Claudia Schmidtke is single and lives in the Lübeck district of St. Jürgen .

Political career

Schmidtke joined the CDU in 2010. According to her, the decisive factors for the active introduction were, on the one hand, the threatened closure of the University of Lübeck by the black and yellow state government at the time and, in 2015, the management of the refugee crisis and the planning of a large reception center in Lübeck. For several years she has been involved on a voluntary basis in the party state committees for health and university policy.

Her position as a direct candidate for the CDU in constituency 11 for the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and for the adjacent offices of Berkenthin and Sandesneben was a surprise. Supported by the north-Lauenburg part of the constituency and Klaus Schlie , she prevailed against the long-standing member of parliament Burkhart Eymer (son of Anke Eymer and Ekkehart Eymer ). In the 2017 federal election , she was elected to the German Bundestag as a direct candidate for the CDU . She won the direct mandate with 35.3% of the first votes against Gabriele Hiller-Ohm (33.8%). Most recently, Helmut Wendelborn won the Lübeck Bundestag constituency directly for the CDU in 1965.
