Claudine François

Claudine François (born April 6, 1948 in Le Havre ) is a French creative jazz musician (piano, composition).

François studied classical piano and initially worked as a classical pianist. An experienced concert by the Art Ensemble of Chicago brought her to jazz. She trained in workshops with Jacques Thollot , Daniel Humair and Henri Texier and founded a group in the field of free jazz. She was shaped by working with Mal Waldron , Don Cherry , Jim Pepper and Bobby Few . She has performed with musicians such as Marion Brown , Bobby Rangell , Itaru Oki , Kent Carter , Wayne Dockery , Paulo Cardoso , Jack Gregg , François Méchali , Noel McGhee and Lee Konitz . With musicians from Benin and Cameroon, she founded the Metis quintet, which performed the Amazon program .

In 1983 she was awarded a prize by the French authors' association SACEM .
