Claus Auer

Claus Bernhard Auer (born April 25, 1952 in Mainz ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from high school , Auer studied agricultural sciences at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Technical University of Berlin , graduating in 1976. He then worked as a consultant and project manager at the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), where he oversaw development projects in Benin until 1986 . In the meantime, he did his doctorate in 1980 at the Department of International Agricultural Development at the TU Berlin with a dissertation on the subject of sweat rate measurement at different temperatures in black and white cattle: a contribution to methodology .

After finishing his work at GTZ, he joined the Foreign Service in 1986 and, after completing his career examination, was employed as an employee for European political cooperation in the Foreign Office in Bonn and then between 1988 and 1992 at the embassy in Finland . Between 1992 and 1996 he was a consultant in the export control department and during this time in 1994 he wrote a report on the so-called plutonium affair as legation councilor after a conversation with employees of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) .

In 1996 he became an employee at the embassy in Japan and between 2000 and 2003 he was employed in the department for organization and global planning of the Foreign Office, before he became permanent representative of the ambassador and head of the economic department of the embassy in South Korea in September 2003 .

From 2010, Claus Auer was Ambassador to Chad as the successor to Leopold-Theodor Heldman , who in turn became Consul General in Mumbai . As ambassador, he organized, among other things, a visit to Chad by members of the Bundestag Johannes Selle ( CDU ) and Uwe Kekeritz ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). In 2012 he was replaced by Helmut Kulitz as ambassador to Chad. Auer then became envoy for public relations at the German embassy in Japan . In 2014 Auer was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Ivory Coast . From 2017 to mid-2018 he was charge d'affaires ad interim with the rank of ambassador in Burkina Faso .
