Claus Schulz (born June 21, 1934 in Rostock ) is a German ballet dancer , choreographer and ballet master .

Life

Claus Schulz began his development path in 1949 as a ballet t-shirt at the Schwerin State Theater , where the dance teacher Grita Krätke took care of him. After just one year, Walter Felsenstein engaged him as a group dancer at the Komische Oper Berlin . Here he completed his studies with Gustav Blank , Tatjana Gsovsky , Grita Krätke and Sabine Ress and passed the stage entrance examination. As early as 1952 he received a contract as a solo dancer. In 1955 he decided to accept an offer from the German State Opera in Berlin, because there he saw more diverse possibilities for dance design.

In addition to numerous guest appearances, as a soloist and with the ensemble of the German State Opera in many countries, he worked as a guest lecturer in Chile in 1966 and in Sweden in 1971 . In 1969 he was appointed acting ballet director due to an illness of Lilo Gruber and was confirmed as ballet director and first choreographer in 1970. In 1972 Claus Schulz did not return to the GDR after a guest performance in Paris. Therefore he was expelled from the German Academy of the Arts , of which he was appointed a full member in 1969. This exclusion was reversed in 1990.

In addition to his appearances in dance theater, Claus Schulz was also active nationally and internationally in film, where he mainly took on roles as a dancer.
