Clemens August von Twickel (baptized name: Clemens I. August Edmund Maria) (born October 10, 1721 in Münster , † November 26, 1792 in Lüttinghof ) was official resister in the office of Rheine-Bevergern and treasurer of the Electorate of Cologne .

Life

Origin and family

Clemens August grew up as the son of Johann Rudolf von Twickel (1684-1759, privy councilor and official droste) and his wife Reichsfreiin Sebastiana Anna von Nesselrode zu Rath and Lüttinghof (1698-1726) in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Twickel , which originally came from the Netherlands and appeared in the Münsterland in the 12th century , together with his brother Jobst Edmund . On August 8, 1750 he married Sophia Bernhardina von Ledebur zu Perutz and Wicheln (1721–1781). The children Clemens August (1755–1841) and Mechthild (1756–1791, ∞ Clemens August von Galen ) emerged from the marriage .

Career and work

With the receipt of the tonsure on May 19, 1737, Clemens August was prepared for a spiritual life after he had previously been assigned to his father as droste of the Rheine-Bevergern office. On October 23, 1742, at the request of the emperor, he received a cathedral preacher in Münster . Before he was appointed as his father's successor on July 11, 1748, he went on a training trip to France to study in Reims . The revival to the knighthood of Münster took place on January 2nd, 1752. His appointment as chamberlain in Kurköln fell on April 12, 1751. On May 4, 1763 he was a deputy of the Münster knighthood when the new sovereign was introduced.
