Clemens Baeumker

Clemens Baeumker (born September 16, 1853 in Paderborn , † October 7, 1924 in Munich ) was a German Roman Catholic philosopher and historian of philosophy.

Clemens Baeumker passed his Abitur in 1872 at the Theodorianum high school in Paderborn and then studied philosophy, theology and philology at the University of Paderborn and later at the University of Münster . From 1879 he worked as a teacher in Münster. Since Georg von Hertling had campaigned for him, he was able to take over the chair of philosophy at the University of Breslau in 1883 . In 1900 he was appointed to the University of Bonn . In 1903 he took over the chair from Wilhelm Windelband at the University of Strasbourg . From 1912 he taught in Munich as the successor to Georg von Hertling.

In 1891, Baeumker founded the series of publications, Contributions to the History of Medieval Philosophy (from 1928/1930, Contributions to the History of Philosophy and Theology of the Middle Ages ).

Honors

In 1913 Baeumker was accepted as a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . From 1915 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences . He was an honorary member of the Catholic student associations Unitas Breslau, Arminia Bonn and Ottonia Munich, all in the KV .
