The Clupea is a German fisheries research ship . It replaces the fishing research cutter of the same name , which has now been decommissioned .

Clupea is named after the herring , whose Latin name is Clupea .
history
The replacement of the old Clupea , which had been in operation since the end of 1949 and as a research cutter since 1982, was planned from 2004. In 2009 the construction of a replacement ship was approved by the Bundestag. The subsequent award procedure was won by the Fassmer shipyard in Berne -Motzen. The construction of the ship cost around 11 million euros.
The keel was laid on October 21, 2010. The ship was christened on September 15, 2011 in Berne. Godmother was the then Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection Ilse Aigner . The ship was delivered on November 18, 2011. After it was handed over to the ministry, comparisons were made with the predecessor ship before it was put into service on April 4, 2012. The Clupea is used for fishery research in the North and Baltic Seas.
