Colton John Fretter (born March 12, 1982 in Harrow , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League .
Career
Colton Fretter began his career as a hockey player on the Michigan State University team , for which he was active in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 2002 to 2006 . Previously, he was already selected as a junior player in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the eighth round as a total of 230th player by the Atlanta Thrashers , for which he never played. Instead, the center made its professional ice hockey debut for the Gwinnett Gladiators in the ECHL in the 2006/07 season . There he was able to convince straight away and was named ECHL Rookie of the Year . After he began the following season with these, he ended the 2007/08 season with the Chicago Wolves and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers from the American Hockey League .
From 2008 to 2010 Fretter was in the AHL for one year each for the Portland Pirates and Springfield Falcons on the ice. For the 2010/11 season he received a contract with the Kassel Huskies from the German Ice Hockey League . In September 2010, after the insolvency of the Kassel Huskies, he moved to HC Bozen from the Italian A1 series . In May 2011 the striker was signed by the Iserlohn Roosters . These left the Canadians for a season and agreed in April 2012 to a contract for the 2012/13 season plus an option for an extension to a game year with the EHC Olten of the Swiss National League B . However, this option was not drawn and Fretter moved to the Klagenfurt AC in the Austrian ice hockey league , where it only lasted a year. Since 2014 he has played for the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League . In 2015 and 2016 he was able to win the main round of the league with his club and thus the British championship . In 2017 it was only enough to finish third in the main round, but the team won the playoffs with a 6-5 win after extra time against the Cardiff Devils .
