The Comité Olímpico Caboverdiano ( COC ) is the National Olympic Committee (NOK) of the African island state Cape Verde . It resides on Rua da UCCLA , in Achada de Santo António, a district of the capital Praia .

The President of the COC is Filomena Fortes (as of 2014).

The COC is u. a. Member of the association of the African NOK, the ANOCA , and of the association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees, the ACOLOP .

history

The country had been a Portuguese colony since its discovery and settlement from 1445 and therefore had no Olympic representation of its own until its independence in 1975. The NOK Cape Verdes was founded in 1989. In 1993 it was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Since the 1996 Summer Olympics , the country has participated in all of the Summer Games. He has not yet won a medal. The country has not yet sent any athletes to the Winter Games . (As of 2014)

In 2004 the COC was one of the founding members of the ACOLOP. Since then, the country has participated in all Jogos da Lusofonia , the games organized by the ACOLOP for the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries . With every participation, Cape Verde managed to win several medals, including one gold medal.
