The Federação Caboverdiana de Futebol (FCF) is the football association of Cape Verde . The association was founded in 1982. It then joined FIFA in 1986 and the CAF in 2000. The association organizes the national football championship, the Campeonato Cabo-verdiano de Futebol , and is also responsible for the national team.

National team

The national team plays in blue or white trousers and shirts and in blue or red socks. They are called either Tubarões Azuis (Blue Sharks) or Crioulos (Creoles) by fans. Since the number of Cape Verdeans overseas is greater than the population of the state, they are also an important source for the national team. Most of the players on the national team are based in Europe.

The best place in the FIFA world rankings was 27 in February 2014, the lowest 182 in April 2000. The first game of a national team took place on January 7, 1979 against Guinea-Bissau and was lost 3-0. So far, the national team has not qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but has qualified for the Africa Cup of 2015. She achieved some remarkable results, such as a 0-0 draw against the Portugal national team in their preparation for the 2010 World Cup, which therefore competed in full strength.

Many footballers with Cape Verdean roots opted for other national teams, including Eliseu , Nani , Manuel Fernandes , Rolando, Nélson Marcos , Silvestre Varela (Portugal), Jacques Faty (Senegal), Gelson Fernandes (Switzerland), Henrik Larsson (Sweden) and David Mendes da Silva (Netherlands).
