The Zanzibar Football Association (ZFA) is the governing body of football in Zanzibar , one of the two autonomous states of Tanzania .
The association has been a member of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) since 2000 and of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) since 2004 .
history
Zanzibar has one of the oldest football traditions in Africa . The association was founded in 1926. At that time, Zanzibar was still a British colony , but indirectly ruled by the Sultan of Zanzibar . At the time, football was encouraged by both the English and the Omani. After the socialist revolution in 1963 and the final declaration of independence from the British crown in 1964, the state of Tanzania emerged from the merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
FIFA
Thanks to the intensive efforts of the ZFA, above all Ali Tamim, Haroum Ali Saleman and Farouq Karim, it was possible to get a little closer to membership in FIFA by 2005, although this excluded membership in 2005.
National team
The association sets up its own national team with the Zanzibari national soccer team . In addition, the players are eligible to play in the joint Tanzanian national soccer team, but not in the Tanzanian national soccer team on the mainland .
