The Comité Olímpico da Guiné-Bissau (COGB) is the National Olympic Committee of the West African Republic of Guinea-Bissau . It resides at Rua Justino Lopes number 21-A in the capital Bissau .

The COGB is u. a. Member of the association of the African NOK, the ANOCA , and the association of the Portuguese-speaking NOK, the ACOLOP .

history

The country was a Portuguese colony until it became independent in 1974. The COGB was established on April 12, 1992, and in 1995 it was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Since 1996 Guinea-Bissau has taken part in all the Summer Olympics, and is aiming for its first medal there. So far, the country has not sent any athletes to the Winter Games (as of 2014).

In 2004 the COGB was one of the founding members of ACOLOP , the "Association of Portuguese-Speaking Olympic Committees". Since then, the country has participated in all Jogos da Lusofonia , the games organized by the ACOLOP for the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries . At the 2006 Games , Guinea-Bissau won its first bronze medal before winning two golds and one silver at the 2014 Games .
