Conrad Brunner

Conrad Brunner (born August 31, 1859 in Diessenhofen ; † June 8, 1927 in Zurich , reformed , resident in Diessenhofen) was a Swiss surgeon and medical historian .

Life

Conrad Brunner, offspring of a family of doctors and pharmacists, was born on August 31, 1859 in Diessenhofen, the son of the doctor and botanist Johannes Brunner. Conrad Brunner began studying medicine at the Universities of Zurich and Leipzig , which he completed in 1885 with the academic degree of Dr. med. graduated in Zurich. He then completed surgical training, primarily with Rudolf Ulrich Krönlein . In 1888, Conrad Brunner undertook study trips to Vienna to Theodor Billroth , Leipzig, Berlin to Ernst von Bergmann , Dresden and Munich .

As a result, Brunner ran a private practice in Zurich from 1889 . In addition, between 1896 and 1922 he was the chief physician of the canton hospital in Münsterlingen . In 1922 he also co-founded the Thurgau-Schaffhausen lung sanatorium in Davos . In addition, Brunner taught from 1890 to 1897 as a private lecturer in surgery at the University of Zurich.

Conrad Brunner, who married Clara Margot in 1889, died on June 8, 1927 at the age of 67 in Zurich.

Act

Conrad Brunner clarified the effectiveness of the various contemporary wound disinfection methods using clinical, bacteriological and experimental investigations . He was able to provide evidence that his method , namely the "Brunner iodine alcohol disinfection" , offers by far the best guarantees against the occurrence of wound diseases . In addition, Conrad Brunner carried out research on medical history topics.

Honors

  • In 1921 Conrad Brunner was awarded the Marcel Benoist Prize in recognition of his achievements in the field of wound disinfection and treatment, the culmination of which was his 1921 publication on surface and deep disinfection of wounds.
  • In 1922 Conrad Brunner was awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy from the University of Zurich for his research in medical history .
